HC Deb 17 November 1919 vol 121 cc637-8W
Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether British troops are to be sent to Memel; if so, with what object; and will these troops be required to operate in territory forming part of the former Russian Empire?

Mr. HARMSWORTH

The answer to the first part of the hon. and gallant Member's question is in the affirmative. The object of sending British troops to Memel is not that they shall operate in territory forming part of the former Russian Empire, but that they shall form part of the Allied Army of Occupation which is to take charge of Memel in accordance with Article 99 of the Treaty of Peace with Germany.
