HOPKINSasked the Postmaster-General if he is aware that the first delivery of letters in the West Central district of London is very frequently delayed till after 8.30 a.m., and that this is the cause of grave inconvenience to the many business people who live in that district who have to leave their houses about that hour, and who consequently only get their morning letters when they return home in the evening; and will he take steps to have this state of things improved?
§ Mr. PEASEThe trains conveying the night mails do not at present reach London as early as they did before the War. This is the main cause of the variation in the time of delivery to which the hon. Member refers. I am arranging for additional assistance to be given, which I hope will result in some improvement, but, until the trains are accelerated, the delivery cannot be materially earlier.
