HC Deb 17 November 1919 vol 121 c634W
Captain BOWYER

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether it is the function of the Treasury to supervise the methods of accountancy in Government Departments; whether he is aware that the systems of account-keeping now in operation at the Admiralty, War Office, and Ministry of Munitions lead to confusion and delay; and whether the necessary steps will be taken by the Treasury to bring about uniformity of the accountancy Departments of those Ministries?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

It is the duty of the Treasury to exercise a general control over the methods of Government accounting. If the hon. and gallant Member will communicate to me particulars of the confusion and delay to which he refers I shall be glad to have them investigated.
