§ Mr. SITCHasked the Minister of Labour whether a request was received by him last June from the National Federation of Women Workers that an allowance should be paid to members of the labour exchange committees and assessors to the courts of referees who are not in receipt of weekly wages, on the ground that the women could not afford to lose time from domestic duties or search for work unless some payment was paid to them; and whether he is yet able to make any statement on the matter?
§ Sir ROBERT HORNEThe National Federation of Women Workers made this request in June, and the matter was subsequently discussed with representatives of the federation at the end of August. The principle underlying the present scale of allowances is that the payments should be limited to out-of-pocket ex-1342W penses and wages lost. I am considering how far, if at all, I can meet the federation's request, but I am not yet in a position to make any statement.
