HC Deb 04 June 1919 vol 116 cc2053-4W
Lieut.-Colonel CAMPION

asked the Parliamentary Secretary-to the Shipping Controller whether he is aware that seven or eight transports which previously came to Newhaven are now running from Antwerp to Southampton with cargoes, which include railway sleepers which have to be railed from Southampton to various destinations, and whether some of this traffic could be diverted through Newhaven?

Colonel WILSON

The cargoes in question were carried to Southampton at the request of the Government Departments concerned, and their ultimate destinations made Southampton the most suitable port. In any case, the service from Antwerp ceases with the landing of one more cargo.
