HC Deb 04 June 1919 vol 116 c2021W
Mr. SPENCER

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware that Frederick W. Jackson, who is under nineteen years of age, fatherless, and has a mother and four younger children to support, and whose wages for the quarter ending 5th April was £49 10s., including £9 10s. for the Sankey Award, was assessed on £18 10s.; if any provision is made in any Finance Act for allowing an abatement for them and other children under sixteen years of age to a son who is the support of the same; and, if not, will he take steps to make such provision in the Finance Bill now before the House?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

If the hon. Member will let me know Mr. Jackson's address and where and by whom he is employed, so that the assessment in question can be traced, I will have the matter looked into. As regards the latter part of the hon. Member's question, I would refer him to the provisions of Sections 12 and 13 of the Income Tax Act, 1918.
