§ Mr. MUNROThe answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As regards the second part, in the event of the Bill not becoming law by 1st April, 1919, I propose that its provisions as regards retiring allowances should be made operative as from that date.
Mr. SHAWasked the Secretary for Scotland what is the present position regarding the scale of superannuation allowances to retired teachers in Scotland and whether any further improvement is in contemplation?
§ Mr. MUNROThe present position as regards retired teachers in Scotland is that, in addition to the superannuation allowance to which they are entitled in terms of the superannuation scheme, they may receive a temporary supplementary982W allowance not exceeding the amount by which their income from the superannuation allowance and other sources falls short of £52 per annum. In a Bill dealing with the superannuation of teachers in Scotland, which I hope to introduce this Session, the position of retired teachers in general will be dealt with.
