§ Mr. GWYNNEasked the Minister for the Department of Overseas Trade 978W whether he is aware that French and American and other companies have lately been formed in order to capture German trade in neutral markets; whether he is aware that the obstruction of the Capital Issues Committee of the Treasury is preventing British interests from competing against these foreign rivals; and whether he has made any representation to the Treasury on the subject?
§ Sir A. STEEL-MAITLANDI am aware that preparations are being made by French, American and other companies for development of trade in neutral markets. The Department of Overseas Trade takes active steps to support before the Capital Issues Committee all applications from responsible persons acting in British interests who desire to further the export trade of this country, and in a number of cases I have reason to believe that the representations made have had the effect desired.
