Mr. A. T. DAVIESasked the Minister of Food whether he has considered the insufficiency of the present ration of sugar for children; and whether he will raise such ration seeing that sugar is, for children, an essential?
§ Mr. McCURDYThe Food Controller does not concur in the hon. Member's opinion that the present sugar ration is insufficient for children. As regards the second part of the question it is impossible in the present state of supplies to permit any increase in the ration.
Mr. DAVIESasked the Minister of Food whether he has investigated the report that some thousands of bags of sugar have been stored for four and five years at the South, East, and West India Docks; that workmen and others walk ankle deep in sugar from bags that have burst, and that waste of this essential commodity is resulting; and, if so, if he will state the result of his investigation?
§ Mr. McCURDYThe Food Controller has received no report to the effect stated. He would be glad of any particulars which the hon. Member may be able to furnish.
