HC Deb 15 December 1919 vol 123 c63W
Mr. N. MacLEAN

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Munitions whether he is aware that F. C. Thomson, who has received an award of 15s. per week for injuries received at Enfield Factory, did not sign the Government scheme; that this man was medically examined on Friday, 5th December, by his panel doctor and certified as totally unfit for work as a result of his injuries; whether the sum awarded is the highest that can be paid under the Workmen's Compensation Act; and whether he will cause the case to be reconsidered?

Mr. KELLAWAY

I am aware that this workman had not signed the Government Scheme of Compensation. As indicated to the hon. Member in the reply given by my hon. Friend the Financial Secretary on the 24th November the rate of compensation referred to (which is less than the rate that would be payable for total incapacity) was regarded as appropriate to the degree of incapacity disclosed by the medical evidence before the Department. If the hon. Member can furnish any more recent medical evidence establishing a condition of total incapacity due to the alleged injury, the case shall be immediately reconsidered.
