asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Munitions whether he will state approximately the number of persons for whom there is housing accommodation in the townships of Eastriggs and Gretna, Dumfriesshire; the number of persons at present residing there; and what proportion of them are employed in connection with the Gretna factory?

Mr. HOPE

In the townships of Eastriggs and Gretna there are 941 houses which could provide housing accommodation for 3,950 people. At present 817 houses are let to 817 householders, but the actual number of persons housed could not be given without census of the population. Approximately 90 per cent. of the householders are employed in Gretna factory.

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Munitions whether he can state the number of unoccupied houses in the townships of Eastriggs and Gretna, Dumfriesshire, and likewise the number of unoccupied or partially occupied hostels in these townships?

The number of unoccupied houses is 124. There are 94 unoccupied hostels, and three partially occupied.
