HC Deb 04 December 1919 vol 122 cc626-7W
Mr. A. DAVIES (Clitheroe)

asked the Secretary of State for India whether the Government of Burma has demanded the resignation of Maung Tim Shein, one of the Burmese national deputation now in this country, from his post of headmaster of a Buddhist College at Mandalay; whether this college is a private institution; whether it is proposed that Maung Tun Shein should be dismissed on account of his taking part in the Burmese national deputation; on account of what action taken by Maung Tun Shein his dismissal has been asked for; and whether he will direct that the order for dismissal shall be cancelled and take the other necessary steps to secure that British subjects in Burma are not penalised for giving expression to their legitimate political convictions?

Mr. MONTAGU

I have no information, but will inquire as to the facts.
