§ Mr. MOSLEYasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether his attention has been called to a proposal in the United States for retrospective taxation of war profits based upon Income Tax returns; and whether he will consider analogous legislation in this country regarding the large fortunes which were accumulated in the early stages of the War as a result of the nation's urgent necessities?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINI am not aware that the Government of the United States of America has made any proposals for the retrospective taxation of war profits. But I have already decided to send an officer of the I.R. to America to inquire into the character and working of profits taxation both in Canada and the United States.
