M'LEANasked the Postmaster-General whether a number of postmasters are to be raised to the rank of postmaster-surveyors and new districts created; whether the surveyor's office for the West of Scotland is to be removed from Glasgow to Edinburgh; and whether, having regard to the effect of these changes on any scheme of reconstruction of postal services, he will state what further rearrangements are contemplated, and if the staff associations will be consulted or given an opportunity of expressing their views on the proposals?
§ Mr. ILLINGWORTHThree postmaster-ships in England and one in Ireland are being converted into postmaster surveyor-ships, with control of the surrounding districts. No such change is taking place in Scotland; but in connection with a reorganisation of the higher controlling staff of the Post Office in that country, the staff attached to the Surveyor of the West Scotland District will be moved from Glasgow to Edinburgh. No further arrangements of the kind are in contemplation.
