HC Deb 21 October 1918 vol 110 c462W
Mr. GILBERT

asked the Secretary to the Local Government Board whether, in view of the general use of public schools as polling places at the next General Election and of the need of supplying light-resisting blinds where they are not already fitted, he will instruct returning officers to arrange that blinds be fitted without delay in order that such schools may be rendered available whenever required for public meetings?

Mr. FISHER

While I have no authority to instruct returning officers in this matter, I have been in communication with my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary, and I understand that the Metropolitan Police authorities have made arrangements to meet the anticipated difficulty in regard to meetings in schools. As regards the provinces, I am asking my right hon. Friend whether it is possible to make somewhat similar arrangements.
