§ Mr. BYRNEasked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether there was any order against the manufacture and distribution of equipment; if so, whether any notice of such order was sent to Mr. Fallon previous to the seizure at his works in Mary Street and Stafford Street, Dublin, in July last; if no notice was given him, why the goods were seized by the police without payment; and what compensation will be paid for the confiscation of Mr. Fallon's property and the disturbance of his business, which was not objected to by any authority since he began the manufacture of equipment in April, 1914?
§ Mr. SHORTTI am not aware of any General Order of the nature indicated in the first part of the question. No notice was conveyed to Mr. Fallon previous to the seizure. The seizure was made under Section 51 of the Defence of the Realm Act in the interests of the Realm. If Mr. Fallon wishes to maintain a claim for the value of the military equipment seized on his premises it is open to him to apply to the Defence of the Realm Losses Commission.
