HC Deb 14 November 1918 vol 110 cc2908-9W
Sir GEORGE TOUCHE

asked the President of the Local Government Board if he will give the names of the boroughs entitled by Section 17 (2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1918, to the application of Section 17 (1) of that Act as regards the freemen of such boroughs; and state which of these boroughs have, by resolution of their respective councils, become entitled to the exercise of the privilege accorded to their freemen by Section 17 (2) of the Act?

Mr. S. WALSH

The Local Government Board have no complete information of the boroughs referred to, but from inquiries received during the preparation of the first register it appears that the following boroughs have had under consideration the subject of exercising the privilege accorded by Section 17 (2) of the Act, namely, Coventry, Exeter, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Derby, and Chester. No resolutions on the subject have been notified to the Department, except in the case of Coventry.
