§ Mr. MACPHERSONThe rations to officers at home have been reduced during the last six months in the same way as for the rest of the Army; and it is now the 1725W same for all ranks. As regards the number of courses at mess the officer is in the same position as the civilian. The number of courses for the latter is not restricted by the Food Controller, and there appears to be no reason why the officer should be treated differently. The actual number of courses served varies, of course, in the different units, and it is impossible to give a definite figure, but the courses made up of such articles as are rationed by the Food Controller would naturally have beer; reduced in those items.
