§ Sir R. WINFREYThe grant of compensation for any loss incurred by reason of the exercise of the powers under the Defence of the Realm Regulations compelling fanners to break up grassland is a matter for the Defence of the Realm (Losses) Commission. No decision has yet been given by the Commission on a claim of the kind, but with the object of securing that the land on which a crop has failed should not remain unproductive, the Board have authorised the agricultural executive committees in suitable cases to defray the cost of the seed for an alternative crop.
