HC Deb 18 July 1918 vol 108 cc1261-2W
Mr. FIELD

asked the Vice-President of the Department of Agriculture (Ireland) whether arrangements have been made, or are in contemplation, to enable the Department's veterinary officials to co-operate with local practising veterinary surgeons, especially in sporadic outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease?

Mr. SAMUELS

I do not understand what is contemplated as regards the Department's veterinary officials co-operating with local practising veterinary surgeons. The work of each class of veterinary surgeons concerned may differ widely in many particulars. So far as foot-and-mouth disease is concerned, or any disease scheduled under the Diseases of Animals Acts, or any condition likely to be confounded with such diseases the Department's veterinary officials are always prepared to, and do, co-operate with local practising veterinary surgeons when they become aware that the practitioners have a doubtful case of the kind under their consideration or charge.
