HC Deb 14 February 1918 vol 103 c294W
Mr. RAMSAY MACDONALD

asked the tinder-Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that seven men belonging to the Non-Combatant Corps stationed at Rouen, having refused to load a truck with rifles, which they stated was an order contrary to the conditions under which they had accepted service in the Non-Combatant Corps, were sentenced to fifty-six days No. 1 field punishment; whether his attention has been drawn to the case; and, if so, whether he has taken any action regarding it?

Mr. MACPHERSON

I have had occasion frequently to explain the conditions of service in the Non-Combatant Corps. They are also known to the soldiers concerned. If the information which my hon. Friend tenders be correct the command which was given was a lawful command, and I am afraid I cannot intervene.
