HC Deb 14 February 1918 vol 103 cc294-5W
Admiral of the Fleet Sir H. MEUX

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether, in the event of a man who formerly held the rating of petty officer in the Royal Naval Air Service (Armoured Car Brigade) being discharged after service abroad on the ground of unit disbandment, on being recalled for service with the Colours, he will be restored to the rating which be held on discharge?

Mr. MACPHERSON

If my hon. and gallant Friend refers to the men who were discharged from the Navy and immediately re-enlisted into the Army (Machine Gun Corps), their pay would be made up to the equivalent of what they drew while serving under the Admiralty, and they would be given equivalent rank. Men failing to take advantage of the offer of re-enlistment under these conditions, if subsequently called up under the Military Service Acts, would not be entitled to receive the equivalent of their Navy rank or pay.
