Mr. MARRIOTT

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food if a large villa, formerly a residential hall for students, has been rented in Oxford as an office for the Live Stock Commissioner under the Ministry; and, if so, whether he will state the rent of the house, whether it is conveniently situated for the work of the Commissioner, the salary to be paid to the Commissioner, and the number and salaries of his staff?

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The rent of the house, which is conveniently situated for the work of the Commissioner, is £150 per annum. The salary paid to the Commissioner is £600 per annum, and the number and salaries of his staff are as follows:

Seven Sub-Commissioners — Three at £300, one at £200, and three at £150 per annum.

Secretary—£350 per annum.

Eighteen clerks and typists at salaries ranging from £39 to £250 per annum.
