HC Deb 15 November 1917 vol 99 c598W
Mr. T. WILSON

asked whether Class W men can claim to be examined by a medical board for the purpose of getting their discharge from the Army?

Mr. FORSTER

Provision has been made for all Class W Reservists who have been transferred otherwise than under the instructions of 30th July, to be asked whether they consider they were suffering at the time of their transfer from any disability which was contracted in or aggravated by military service. Men who answer in the affirmative appear before a medical board, and if found to be suffering as I have indicated, are discharged forthwith. Since 30th July medical boards are held in every case before men are transferred to Class W, unless the transfer is on compassionate grounds.

Mr. WILSON

asked whether Class W men are entitled to any payment or allowance; and, if so, from what source do they receive it?

Mr. FORSTER

These are men temporarily allowed to leave the Army to take, up situations in civil life.
