asked the Secretary to the Treasury if he will state for each year for the ten years last past what amount of money has been advanced or paid by the Government for beet-root sugar cultivation or factory work in Great Britain?

During the ten years previous to the current financial year the. following payments or advances have been made in connection with the cultivation or manufacture of sugar beet:

During the current year £5, 125 has been advanced, and a further sum of £125, 000 will be advanced, for the purchase of an estate to be used as soon as circumstances permit for the cultivation of sugar beet and the erection of a factory.
