§ Mr. O'LEARYasked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he has received and considered a memorial from the paper-promoted national teachers and ascertained from the Commissioners whether their claim is a just one, and, if not, will he do so and state their reply?
§ Mr. DUKEI have seen a copy of the memorial submitted by the class of teachers referred to and a report from the Commissioners of National Education on the subject. The application is for payment in respect of promotion without increase of salary sanctioned by the Commissioners of National Education as a recognition of meritorious service to teachers who were not eligible for the increased salary of the first grade owing to the authorised number of places in that grade being filled. I am informed that in September, 1913, a concession was made to these teachers by increasing the authorised number of places for teachers with first-grade salary, and I regret I cannot hold out any hope of securing a further concession in respect of such promotions.
