HC Deb 21 March 1917 vol 91 c1939W
Mr. THOMAS

asked the Postmaster General whether he is aware that the Post Office temporary sorting clerks and telegraphists are dissatisfied with their present rates of pay, which are inadequate to meet the high cost of living; and, being denied as temporary employees the right of direct appeal to the Postmaster-General, will he have inquiries made into the matter with a view to an increase in wages being conceded to this class of low-paid employés?

Mr. ILLINGWORTH

Temporary sorting clerks and telegraphists, in common with all Post Office servants, have the right of appeal to the Postmaster-General. Claims from the temporary staff of the Post Office for increased remuneration have been placed before the Conciliation and Arbitration Board for Government employés, and I must await the decision of that Board.
