§ Mr. GINNELLasked the Chief Secretary for Ireland if he has any explanation to offer of the conduct of the police in Ireland on St. Patrick's Day last in preventing the religious processions and language fund collections customary on that day, assaulting women and children engaged in those functions, forcibly snatching and trampling upon their religious 45W emblems, patriotic badges, and other credentials; what Defence of the Realm Act Regulation authorises this conduct; and, if the English Government in Ireland disapprove of such conduct because of its effect on the desired affection for the Empire, how they propose to mark their disapproval?
§ Mr. DUKEI am not aware of any occurrences of the nature indicated in the question. If the hon. Member will give references to any cases which have come to his knowledge inquiry will be made.
