HC Deb 28 June 1917 vol 95 cc555-6W
Mr. SNOWDEN

asked the Secretary to the Local Government Board why the Chester Town Council have been called upon to pay £112 7s. towards the salary of Dr. George Harrison, the public vaccinator, in respect of cases vaccinated by him during the four years ending September, 1914; and why ratepayers in 1917 are called on to pay for vaccinations performed some years previously?

Mr. HAYES FISHER

The sum mentioned is an award made to Dr. Harrison under Section 5 of the Vaccination Act, 1867, in respect of vaccinations performed by him during the period 1st April, 1910, to 30th September, 1914. Awards to public vaccinators generally have been delayed owing to the inability of the Board's staff in present circumstances to make the inquiries which are necessary before awards can be made. By Section 24 (2) of the Local Government Act, 1888, the sum is a charge on the exchequer contribution account of the county borough.
