HC Deb 28 June 1917 vol 95 c554W
Mr. SWIFT MacNEILL

asked whether any report has been received by the police or by the Department of Agriculture that on or about Sunday, 10th June instant, the salmon boxes on the Erne fishing at Ballyshannon were closed for the passing of salmon up the river; and, if so, what action is being taken?

Mr. DUKE

The Royal Irish Constabulary and the Department of Agriculture have both received reports as to this matter. Owing to a heavy flood it was impossible to open the salmon boxes at Ballyshannon to the full width required by the law; but a sufficient opening was made, and there was in fact no serious obstruction to the passage of fish, and in the circumstances no action was considered necessary.
