asked the First Commissioner of Works what are the facilities now given for London children to bathe in the Serpentine during the summer months; at what hours bathing is permitted; and whether any charge is made?

During the school holidays, from 26th July to 25th August, bathing is allowed for children under fourteen years of age from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. A special enclosure is formed for girls and a separate space is set apart for boys. No charge is made. The bathing hours for the general public are:

  • 5 a.m. to 8.30 a.m. all the year round.
  • 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in January, February, and March.
  • 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in April.
  • 6 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. in June, July, and August
  • 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in May and September.
No special arrangements are made for children out of the summer holiday season.
