HC Deb 04 July 1917 vol 95 cc1121-2W
Mr. NUGENT

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland if he is aware that a claim for compensation was received by the Property Losses Committee from Mr. George Ferran for the sum of £5,932 10s. in connection with the destruction of pictures and engravings, his property, which had been stored in 67, Middle Abbey Street, Dublin, and that the Committee refused to make any recommendation in this case; if he will state the reasons for the refusal of any compensation in this instance; whether he is aware that the pictures and prints concerned were valued by Mr. W. G. Strickland, one of the best authorities on art in the country; and if he will take steps to have this case reconsidered with the view to having adequate compensation awarded?

Mr. DUKE

This claim for compensation is one which has not been admitted by the Property Losses Committee, and I cannot therefore take any action in the matter.
