HC Deb 21 February 1917 vol 90 c1351W
Commander WEDGWOOD

asked the Secretary of State for India whether any and, if so, what steps are being taken to supply from India the expedition in Mesopotamia with shell and ordnance stores which have hitherto been supplied from this country?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

Special steps are being taken to develop to the fullest possible extent the resources of India for the production and supply of these and other stores direct to the forces in Mesopotamia and the East spheres of operation, in order to relieve home industries and shipping. The Government of India have appointed a Controller of Supplies and Contracts, and I am in communication with the War Office and Ministry of Munitions to secure that Indian help is given in the most effective way possible.
