HC Deb 21 February 1917 vol 90 cc1356-7W
Mr. SNOWDEN

asked the Secretary for Scotland if he will now take into favourable consideration the question of releasing John Maclean, who was tried for an offence under the Defence of the Realm Act at the High Court. Edinburgh, in April, 1916, and sentenced to three years' penal servitude?

Mr. MUNRO

The offence of which Maclean was convicted was a serious one. He had, moreover, been previously convicted of a similar offence. In these circumstances I am not prepared, at a time when he has served ten months only of a three years' sentence, to advise any remission.
