HC Deb 15 February 1917 vol 90 c812W
Mr. KING

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that men of agricultural experience now serving at home are released on leave to get in the crops if asked for by farmers or Labour Exchanges, but not when being small holders they apply to put in crops for themselves; whether this adverse discrimination against small holders is intentional; and what steps will be taken to save the food supply on small holdings where the occupier has been called to the Colours?

Mr. MACPHERSON

I am afraid my hon. Friend has been misinformed. There has been no discrimination between large farms and small holdings in granting leave from home units for agricultural work. If my hon. Friend knows of any case to the contrary, perhaps he will let me have particulars. The question of food supply on small holdings will doubtless be taken into account by tribunals granting exemptions where necessary.
