§ Sir G. GREENWOODasked the hon. Member for Wilton, as representing the Food Controller, whether his attention has been called to complaints which have been recently made at Folkestone and other places to the effect that quantities of sound fish have been destroyed at various time since the commencement of the War 825W in order to keep up the price; whether he has investigated such complaints; and whether, if such complaints are shown to be well founded, he will take all necessary steps to prevent such waste of food?
Captain BATHURSTIt now appears that certain complaints of the nature indicated in the question have been made to the Board of Agriculture and Fisheries, who, after investigation, ascertained that fresh fish had been found among the offal sent to the destructors at Folkestone. For the reason stated in my answer to the hon. Member for West Newington yesterday, it seems most unlikely that such a practice is general, but any such waste of food is greatly to be deprecated, and if it continues the Food Controller will not hesitate to take such action as may be necessary to prevent it.
