§ Mr. BYRNEasked the Chief Secretary for Ireland when the employés of Government Departments in Ireland will be paid the same rate of wages as is paid in Great Britain for similar work; if he is aware that railway, postal, teaching, clerical, Board of Works, Irish Lights, and many other employments under the control of the Government are paying a less wage than that paid in Great Britain; and if he will say when Irish employés may expect to be on an equal footing with British workers?
§ Mr. CLANCYasked whether Government employés in every grade and class of employment in Ireland are paid much less remuneration than the corresponding employés in Great Britain; if so, on what ground is this differentiation based; whether, if the differentiation exists, it will be abolished; and whether equal remuneration will be paid for the same work in both countries?
§ Mr. DUKEThe rates of pay received by different classes of Government employés are calculated with reference to a number of varying conditions, and it is not until conditions are uniform that uniform rates of pay will be established. Otherwise I have nothing to add to the answer I gave to the hon. Member for the Harbour Divsion of Dublin on 12th March.
§ Mr. BYRNEasked the Chief Secretary for Ireland if he is aware of the conditions of employment in the Board of Works at Kingstown; if he will have inquiries made into the claims of the men for increased wages; and if he will have the cause of dissatisfaction removed?
