HC Deb 19 April 1917 vol 92 c1877W
Mr. O'SHEE

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Shipping Controller what were the average rates per ton for grain from Buenos Ayres to the United Kingdom on the following dates: January, 1917; March, 1917; and at the present date?

Sir L. CHIOZZA MONEY

All grain is now brought to this country from all destinations at the Blue Book rates, or their near arithmetical equivalent. This equivalent in the case of grain from the River Plate is, as nearly as possible, 52s. 6d. per ton, and my hon. Friend will understand that this figure is true of all the three dates to which he refers.

Mr. O'SHEE

asked what are the present freight rates on coal from South Wales ports to Waterford, Dublin, Belfast, and Cork, and also from Lancashire ports to the same cities?

Sir L. CHIOZZA MONEY

The present rates of freight on coal from South Wales ports are as follows:

  • To Waterford and Cork, 17s. to 17s. 6d.
  • To Dublin and Belfast, 14s.
less 1s. to 1s. 2d. per ton cost of discharge, and 6d. per ton cost of trimming the coal, payable by shippers.

From Lancashire ports the rates are as follows:

To Waterford 16s. to 17s.
To Dublin 12s.to 12s. 6d.
To Belfast 12S.to 6d.
To Cork 17s. to 17s. 6d.
less the same charges for discharge and trimming.
