HC Deb 19 April 1917 vol 92 c1881W
Mr. P. WHITE

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether Thomas Smith, Balloughly, Kingscourt, as the representative of his mother, who was evicted from the Fleming or Blake estate, Cormeen, Moynally, county Meath, applied to be reinstated or get an equivalent holding; what action was taken in his case; whether local opinion acquainted with the facts attending the eviction of his mother, Mary Smith, consider it a case of eviction deserving of redress; whether it will again be considered; whether it was on any ground of objection to Thomas Smith personally or on the merits of the eviction of his mother; and whether another member representative of the evicted lady would be acceptable to the Estates Commissioners?

Mr. DUKE

The reply to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The Estates Commissioners received several communications from the locality on behalf of Thomas Smith, but, after inquiry and consideration, they have decided not to take any action with reference to his application for reinstatement in a holding on the Blake estate formerly occupied by his mother or the provision of an equivalent holding.
