HC Deb 04 April 1917 vol 92 c1317W
Mr. BYRNE

asked the Home Secretary what the Government proposals are in reference to the licensed trade in Ireland; if the Government intend to purchase 8,000 licensed houses; if they will be acquired compulsorily or by voluntary arrangement; on what basis compensation will be paid; if the owners desiring to do so will be allowed to retain their houses; if those disemployed as a result of the restrictions will be compensated; or if the restrictions will be withdrawn or modified?

Sir G. CAVE

I have no statement to make on this subject at present except that no withdrawal or relaxation of the restrictions on the output of intoxicating liquor can be anticipated.
