HC Deb 02 April 1917 vol 92 c943W
Mr. SNOWDEN

asked if the military representative at Bridlington has instructions, as he alleges, to appeal against every decision granting exemption to a general service man; and, if not, can some veto be imposed on his power to appeal, which he appears to exercise indiscriminately?

Mr. MACPHERSON

No special instructions have been issued by the War Office to the military representative at Bridlington as to the exercise of the right of appeal, but military representatives have generally been informed that they should exercise the right of appeal in all suitable cases.

Mr. SNOWDEN

asked the Secretary to the Local Government Board if the Local Government Board approve the wife of the military representative being a member of the tribunal before which her husband regularly appears, and to which she was appointed before her husband was made military representative?

Mr. HAYES FISHER

The situation is unusual and I think undesirable, but I have no reason at present to think that the intervention of the Local Government Board is necessary.
