HC Deb 02 April 1917 vol 92 cc922-3W
Colonel GRETTON

asked the Prime Minister if he will consent to add to Lord Selborne's Committee, which is considering the future of agriculture, one or more additional members who are well acquainted with the practical management of land and the practice of husbandry, including dairy farming?

Colonel BOLES

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the importance of increasing the food supply, he will consider the desirability of adding to Lord Selborne's Committee additional Members of the House of Commons with practical experience in agriculture and who represent agricultural constituencies?

Mr. PETO

asked the Prime Minister whether his attention has been called to the fact that the dairy cattle-raising industry is not represented on the agricultural sub-committee of the Reconstruction Committee; is he aware that there is a feeling among that section of the agricultural industry that the findings of the Committee in the first part of their Report would be detrimental to it; and whether he will see that this section of the industry is represented on the Committee?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I have been in consultation with Lord Selborne on this matter, and I see no reason for making any additions to the Committee, which was so constituted as to represent all branches of the agricultural industry, including those referred to in the questions.
