HC Deb 02 April 1917 vol 92 cc971-2W
Mr. BOLAND

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether his attention has been called to the memorandum addressed to the Intermediate Board protesting against the introduction of a written pass-examination in experimental science by the representatives of educational institutions in the North of Ireland; whether he is aware that it is signed by representatives of the leading educational institutions in Belfast, including the Academical Institution, Victoria College, Belfast Royal Academy, Methodist College, and St. Malachy's College, and in Amagh, Coleraine, Holywood, Dungannon, Portora, Banbridge, Newry, Lurgan, Bangor, Omagh, Ballymena, Londonderry, Lame, Ballyclare, Enniskillen, Carrickmacross, and Letterkenny; and whether, in view of the representative character of the signatories, added to the protests which have been raised by those interested in the teaching of science in other parts of Ireland, steps will now be taken to annul the rule complained of?

Mr. DUKE

My attention has been called to the memorandum referred to. As to the future, I cannot add anything to the statement I made in answer to the hon. Member on the 22nd March.
