HC Deb 02 April 1917 vol 92 c971W
Mr. NUGENT

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland if he will state the regulations of the Dublin Metropolitan Police broken by Constables Murray, Smith, Daly, and Keating, which justify these men being dismissed from the police force; if the constables mentioned above were ever made aware of the regulations; if the precedent adopted in the case of the late Assistant-Commissioner Harrel to receive promotion to a more lucrative position in the Government service after dismissal will be followed in the case of the constables; and, if not, will he state why such discrimination should be made in the case of late Assistant-Commissioners responsible for the shootings at Bachelors Walk?

Mr. DUKE

The constables were in formed of the charges on which they were dismissed, which were charges of conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline. The Police Code deals with such matters on pages 93–95. There is no foundation for the comparison sought to be made with the case of the late Assistant-Commissioner Harrel, who did not receive any such promotion as is suggested.
