HC Deb 02 April 1917 vol 92 c973W
Mr. SNOWDEN

asked the Secretary to the Local Government Board if the wages and conditions of employment of the paid servants of local boards of guardians have to be approved by the Local Government Board; if so, whether the Board has sanctioned the rate of wages paid to J. Johnson, officially described in the resolution of the guardians making his appointment as a sawyer at the rate of 5s. 3d. a week, with rations and so on; and, in view of the fact that the standard rate of wages for sawyers in the district is 9d. an hour, whether the Local Government Board will take action in the matter and see that the proper rate of wages is paid in this case?

Mr. HAYES FISHER

The terms and conditions of employment of subordinate officers and servants of Boards of Guardians are not subject to the approval of the Local Government Board.
