HC Deb 12 October 1916 vol 86 c220W
Mr. BENTHAM

asked the Secretary of State for War if he is aware of the number of soldiers who have been, and still are, serving at the front, and have had no leave to come home for between one and two years; and if he will give instructions to commanding officers to remedy this state of affairs at the earliest opportunity?

Mr. FORSTER

As has been repeatedly stated, it is the desire of the Commander-in-Chief of the British Armies in France that all possible leave should be given which military exigencies will permit. The matter is one which is entirely within the discretion of the Commander-in-Chief, and I cannot undertake to interfere with his discretion in the matter.
