HC Deb 12 October 1916 vol 86 c220W
Sir J. JARDINE

asked the Secretary of State for War if he is in a position to make a statement about any increase of transport on the River Tigris and between Kurna and Nasiriyah, on the River Euphrates; and whether it is now practicable without unreasonable delay to send on from Basra to the garrisons on those rivers supplies of medicines and hospital appliances and comforts sent for their use?

Mr. FORSTER

Yes, Sir. Since the end of July, when the War Office took over control, there has been a large increase in the river transport available in Mesopotamia. The increase is already 64 per cent., and will shortly be 100 per cent. The whole system has been reorganised, and there is ample transport available to take up promptly all the medical stores required.
