Mr. NUGENTasked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he is aware that 176W the Rebellion Victims Committee appointed a clerk in the Local Government Board to do the official shorthand writing in connection with their investigation; will he say why the services of competent journalist stenographers were not secured, as had been the invariable practice at similar inquiries; whether applications for this work has been received from such journalist stenographers; and, if so, why was one of them not appointed?
§ Mr. DUKEThe appointment of the official shorthand writer was a matter for the Committee, and there is no reason to interfere with their discretion in the matter.
