HC Deb 21 November 1916 vol 87 c1236W
Mr. ANDERSON

asked the Minister of Munitions whether he is aware that at a sitting of the Munitions Tribunal at Carlisle, on 4th November, at which a number of cases affecting women were heard, no woman assessor was present in accordance with the provisions of the Munitions of War Act; and whether he will draw the attention of the clerk to the tribunal to this error and order a retrying of these cases?

Dr. ADDISON

I have made inquiries and am informed that a woman assessor was duly summoned to attend the tribunal, but that two days before the meeting the clerk received an intimation that she was dead. A trade union woman representative appeared at the hearing on behalf of the girls in question and raised no objection to the absence of a woman assessor, or the case would have been adjourned to the next tribunal.
