HC Deb 09 November 1916 vol 87 cc431-2W
Mr. BARNES

asked the Secretary of State for War if he is aware that Private D. G. Reich, 1st Field Survey Company, No. A. P. M., 1st Army Headquarters, British Expeditionary Force, France, was sentenced to fifty-six days' field punishment No. 1, otherwise "crucifixion," for reporting late after first leave home for twenty months; that he has already undergone eighteen days of the punishment; will he take steps to remit the remainder of the sentence, if, after inquiry, the facts are as stated; and will he state why the code of punishments cannot be recast in accordance with humane ideas'?

Mr. FORSTER

Inquiries are being made.
